ATMs go dry, price of goods shoots up

CRPF men, police ask vendors to down shutters

Shillong, Nove 26: Four days after the Mukroh firing incident, the city is yet to become normal.

Fear of attacks by goons resulted in many shops remaining closed in parts of the city on Saturday.

People panicked due to the meetings of HITO and Save Hynniewptrep Mission. .

Curiously, the central security forces and the police were seen directing the vendors to close the shops.

Security personnel did not even spare a medical shop in Last Stop, Laban.

“What to do , though the medical shop is an emergency service, I was compelled to close the shop by the police and the CRPF”, a medical shop staff said.

When asked, the security personnel said the intention was to ensure the safety of the residents.

No cash in ATMs 

Many ATMs were out of order while some were shut due to shortage of cash.

An official claimed that some masked men prevented the SBI personnel from depositing cash in ATMs.

“We would be able to put the cash in the ATMs  on Sunday”, he said.

Price rise 

The price of commodities shot up as there is hardly any movement of commercial vehicles to transport goods from Assam.

On Saturday, a vendor charged Rs 8 for one egg compared to the previous price of Rs 7 and Rs 6.
