Shillong, Feb 27: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE- Shillong) in collaboration with Office of Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya conducted a comprehensive “Awareness Generation Program on Government Schemes and Initiatives for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)” on February 26 at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Shillong, bringing together key government departments, NGOs with the aim of educating and informing about the various schemes and services available to them across the state of Meghalaya.
The programme was chaired by H Vijayashankar, Governor of Meghalaya along with Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr. Ram Shakal Sahani, Director, CRCSRE-Shillong
The program was designed to bridge the information gap and empower persons with disabilities by ensuring that they are aware of the government initiatives tailored to meet their needs. Various government departments, including the Social Welfare Department, Health Department, Livelihood Department, Education Department, Employment and Labor Department, played an active role in this initiative. Through detailed presentations and informative sessions, CRCSRE- Shillong highlighted their respective schemes, services, and policies that are specifically aimed at improving the lives of Divyangjans in the state.
The program witnessed an enthusiastic participation of key government officials from various departments. The interactive sessions allowed them to raise questions and clarify doubts, creating an open platform for dialogue. Participants were educated about the application procedures for various schemes and the eligibility criteria for different programs.
This awareness drive is the beginning of an ongoing commitment to improving the lives of Divyangjans in Meghalaya. With sustained awareness efforts, the CRCSRE- Shillong and Social Welfare Department is poised to create a truly inclusive society where every individual, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive.
