Baichung Bhutia Football Schools & Dream Foundation to set up academy in city

Shillong, May 18: Dream Foundation in collaboration with Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS) will set up a residential football academy in Shillong.

This was announced by former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia who is also heading the BBFS.

The initiative Dare to Dream Academy was launched by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at SAI Training Centre, NEHU on Thursday.

The plan is to have a three-year football training and football training and development programme.

As part of the programme, Dream Foundation will also be working towards holistic development of the athletes and provide them with lodging, nutrition, education, coaching, training, equipment, apart from opportunities to participate in National and International tournaments. The selected athletes will receive their academic education at the Army Rifles Public School, Shillong, and Vedas International School, New Delhi, while they complete their training programme.

A short exhibition football featuring young budding footballers was held on the occasion in the presence  Conrad and Bhutia who also played along with the young team.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, Conrad said he is happy to learn that the collective venture has trained 6 footballers from Meghalaya who had played in the Indian League & is growing from nurturing 6 footballers to over 50 from across the North East.

Bhutia said the joint initiative will help to tap local talents from the North East as the region is known for having a pool of football players. Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder Dream Sports, Bhavit Sheth said the Dream Foundation is committed to enable athletes to unlock their full potential by supporting their overall development.
