Bangladesh not to have elections without caretaker govt: Mirza Fakhrul
Dhaka, Nov 12 (UNI): The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, said a caretaker government is the demand of the people of this country. There will be no more elections in the country without a caretaker government.
He said, “In the last 2 elections, you have come to power by misleading people by telling lies. This time we turned around. People turned around. This time there will be no elections in the country, until an impartial caretaker government is given.”
He said all this at the divisional mass meeting of BNP at Komarpur Abdul Aziz Institution ground in Faridpur on Saturday afternoon.
Fakhrul said, ‘You talk about the constitution, you say that it will be as it is in the constitution. What is in the constitution, there will be no caretaker government. Caretaker government was in the constitution, after 1990 4-5 elections were held under caretaker government. Everyone could vote then. Awami League has destroyed the constitution. He did it once in 1975. All political parties were banned, all newspapers were closed and Bakshal was launched.
He said, ‘Awami League government has no relationship with the people. They are isolated from the people. Today they are harassing even the scholars of the country. Accusing them in false cases and sending them to jail. They are not even bailed.
Fakhrul said, ‘Awami League leaders and activists said – have we chewed up the money? You didn’t chew the money, you swallowed it. You have swallowed the reserve.
Fakhrul said, “They are smuggling the wealth of the country abroad. Where did the government steal? From mega projects to unemployment allowance, old age allowance, widow allowance, they have stolen.
Mirza Fakhrul demanded that Sheikh Hasina resign from the assembly and form a caretaker government.
Faridpur Nagar BNP convener ASM Qayyum presided over the rally. Central and local leaders of BNP gave speeches there.
