BJP mahila morcha slams Shangpliang, says Mawrie’s wife had many roles under three state presidents

Shillong, Sept 8: BJP State Mahila Morcha has criticised the ignorance of former party member HM Shangpliang who had alleged that Mawrie had appointed his own wife as mahila morcha general secretary.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Mahila Morcha wanted to know how is the appointment of a senior party member, Matilda Kharbuki, the wife of Mawrie, who has been an office-bearer of the state BJP, holding various important offices of the party, during the term of three different BJP state presidents, nepotism as alleged by  Shangpliang.

“These baseless and opportunistic allegations are highly irresponsible, and inappropriate, on the part of Mr. Shangpliang”, the BJP women’s wing said.

Shangpliang’s nepotism statement is false, and motivated. It is a calculated strategy of Shangpliang to dishonor the BJP state president, and he is justifying his exit by putting blame on others. He had made similar statements, and accusations when he left two other political parties last year, for his deemed political gains, and never ending search for greener pastures, the morcha said.

“Our State President had nominated Smti Susuki Pariat, as the BJP State Mahila Morcha President and the State Mahila Morcha Executive Committee was appointed by her in consultation with the office bearers, as conferred and required by the Party Constitution, on the 3 of July, 2023, and not the President Ernest Mawrie, as insinuated, and alleged by Mr. Shangpliang”, the Morcha pointed out

The mahila morcha president Susuki Pariat clarified that the three mahila morcha general secretaries, were nominated, as per the norms, and guidelines.  Dakaniwan Shullal was nominated as the main general secretary who has been given responsibility of maintaining and preparing all effective reports, while Matilda Kharbuki and Grace Lanong were given the responsibility of assisting the main general secretary”, the statement said.

According to the BJP women’s wing  Matilda Kharbuki is one of the oldest BJP members  who had joined the party, during the tenure of the former BJP  president Khlur Singh Lyngdoh, and she had held several posts, such as state mahila morcha vice president, general secretary and treasurer, under the tenure of another former BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh.

According to the BJP women’s group, the entire state mahila morcha executive committee testifies that they have not been nominated by the state president Ernest Mawrie as alleged by Shangpliang with some hidden motive or agenda. The state mahila morcha executive committee stressed that no one in BJP state mahila morcha executive committee has been nominated on nepotism basis either by BJP chief  Ernest Mawrie or by BJP state president mahila morcha Susuki Pariat.

“The BJP is not for petty politics, or to promote filial ties, we are for the development and progress of our state, and to bring peace and prosperity to our people”, the statement added.
