Shillong, May 19: The state BJP will apprise the Centre of the shoddy construction of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong.
Th BJP took the decision after the party leader and former cabinet minister AL Hek conducted an inspection of the ISBT on Thursday.
The BJP’s central scheme monitoring committee will submit a report on the matter.
Hek was companied by the members of the monitoring committee.
“We will submit a report on the substandard work undertaken while constructing the ISBT, to the central government as well as the North Eastern Council, which has funded Rs 48.31 crore for the project”, he said.
To a question on any inquiry into the matter, he said it is for the Centre to take a call on the issue.
During the inspection conducted in the presence of the Deputy General Manager, Meghalaya Transport Corporation, Salseng A Sangma, the committee had witnessed that cracks have also developed in the building besides the leakages.
“We are very concerned about the safety of the passengers coming from outside the state in view of the incident,” Hek said.
He wanted the authorities to ensure that people’s safety should be their top priority as if anything goes wrong, it will surely give a bad name for the state.
Irregular power, commutation issues
The BJP leader also suggested the need to set up a generator in the ISBT due to irregular power supply.
“I have also told them to set up pre-paid taxis for the convenience of the passengers and tourists so that nobody should be harrassed,” he said.
