Shillong, July 21: BJP youth wing president and lawyer Mewak Lyngdoh Pakma, who courted controversy over his comments to shoot NEET protestors in New Delhi, avoided media persons on Tuesday (July 21).
Pakma rushed out from the additional secretariat after attending a meeting on Special Intensive Revision(SIR) for political parties, convened by the Chief Electoral Officer.
The journalists, who followed him, wanted to know the veracity of Pakma’s comments, but he did not clarify on the matter.
Media persons had also sought the response of the state BJP leadership on the matter but instead a press statement mentioning the achievements of the NDA government compared to the previous UPA was posted on the WhatsApp group of the state BJP.
The BJP state leaders chose not to react on the youth leader’s adverse comments.
“PM Modi’s zero‑tolerance stand on the NEET paper leak, backed by arrests, stronger laws, and rapid corrective action marks a clear departure from the UPA era, when repeated exam irregularities and recruitment scams were met with slow responses and weak deterrence”, the statement said.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party Meghalaya welcomes the corrective steps and affirms that the Central Government has taken an uncompromising stand on the recent NEET paper leak. The Government has made it unequivocally clear that those responsible will not be spared, and that the integrity of national examinations is non‑negotiable. A swift crackdown by investigative agencies led to the arrest of 13 accused, demonstrating the Centre’s commitment to speed, accountability, and transparency. To protect the interests of lakhs of students, the Government ensured that the re‑examination was conducted smoothly, with results declared promptly. Additionally, stricter laws like the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act with stronger safeguards have been introduced to prevent future leaks, strengthen digital security, and modernize exam administration. The BJP‑led government has reiterated that protecting the future of India’s youth remains its highest priority.
