Blanket removal of posters, random acts of flying squads irk Ampareen
Shillong, Jan 31: NPP leader and East Shillong legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday wanted the election department to facilitate the display of party’s banners and posters in the various locations.
“I have requested the Returning Officer to kindly facilitate the display of our banners and posters in various locations or wherever we want to place them because this processing of our banners and posters is taking too long,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
She said they have only three weeks for displaying their posters to appeal to the people to vote for them.
Lyngdoh also informed that she was told that somebody had gone to the houses of people at Demseiniong and took away their posters from their veranda, which is not right.
“We are also being given the impression that likely these flying squads which are doing all the policing around need proper training also. I think you have to tell them that these are the rules. I think rather than entering a private home and removing a poster of a candidate, I think all flying squads should kindly call candidates or their election agents to come to such locations so that we can sort out matter and verify these permissions. If you single handedly do these things then it will be problematic for all of us because we have to invest. We have invested dearly into these things,” she said.
Asking the election department to ensure a hassle free election, the legislator said, “I have requested the office of the Election Commission in the state of Meghalaya to kindly attend to these issues because we are running out of time and too many things are not ready. We would like to see an election which is hassle free and if we can get it I think nothing like it.”
