Bodies of 7 army personnel found in Arunachal’s Kameng
Avalanche hit the group on Sunday; PM, president condole deaths
New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI): The bodies of seven army personnel, who were missing after an avalanche hit them on Sunday, were recovered on Tuesday, defence sources said.
The personnel were struck by the avalanche amid snowfall in the high-altitude Kameng sector, the army said, adding that a search and rescue operation was launched immediately.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the deaths.
Taking to Twitter, the president wrote, “The death of soldiers due to an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh is a tragedy beyond words. The brave soldiers laid down their lives for the service of the nation. Their selfless sacrifice will always be remembered. My condolences to their families.”
Expressing his grief, the Prime Minister in a tweet wrote, “Saddened by the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel due to an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh. We will never forget their exemplary service to our nation. Condolences to the bereaved families.”
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter and wrote, “Saddened to know of the death of Army Personnel in avalanche tragedy in Arunachal Pradesh. My deepest condolences to their family and friends. We salute the martyrs.”
