Body of a miner from Nepal recovered in Dima Hasao

Shillong, Jan 8: Para drivers engaged in the rescue work at the mine accident site in Assam’s Dima Hasao recovered a body from the bottom of the well early on Wednesday morning.

In a social media post, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the body was identified as that of Ganga Bahadur Srestho from Udayapur district of Nepal.

At least 15 miners were trapped in the rat-hole mine in Dima Hasao. An FIR was filed on Tuesday and one person was arrested in connection with the accident.

The Indian Navy has also joined the rescue forces. In a post on X, @indiannavy said, “Diving Teams from Command Clearance Diving Team @IN_HQENC have been airlifted & deployed from Visakhapatnam for the #SearchandRescue Operations for trapped Miners at 3 Kilo Assam Quarry Mine, Umrangso, Dima Hasao, Assam.
The rescue effort is being conducted in close coordination with the #IndianArmy, @NDRFHQ & the local civil administration to ensure an immediate & effective response.”

The team, comprising one officer and eleven sailors, includes highly trained Clearance Divers skilled in deep depth diving and recovery operations, and is on site. It arrived on Tuesday.
