Bomb threat note disrupts IndiGo’s Kolkata-Shillong flight

Flight 6E-7304 scheduled for 9.15 am finally leaves Kolkata airport at 1.33 pm after all security checks

Shillong, Feb 14: A bomb threat disrupted IndiGo Airlines’ flight services from Kolkata to Shillong on Saturday morning.

An IndiGo flight (6E-7304 ), which was to depart Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport in Kolkata for Shillong on Friday morning was moved to the isolation bay after crew members found a handwritten bomb threat note in the lavatory. This happened when passengers were already boarding.

This prompted airport authorities to start security checks and deboard passengers. The flight was scheduled at 9.15 am. After all the checks, the aircraft took off at 01.33 pm.

“We came to know about it. The incident was in Kolkata and not Umroi. They (crew members) found a note,” said Ri Bhoi SP Giri Prasad.

Rajeev Ranjan. Airport Director, Umroi, said, “It was learnt that the flight was scheduled to depart from Kolkata for Shillong at 9:15 a.m. But before taking off, the flight attendants found a note in the plane’s toilet. It read, ‘There is a bomb on the plane’. After that, panic spread among the passengers. According to airport sources, passengers were disembarked and a search of the IndiGo plane began.”

“According to airport sources, it is being investigated who placed the note in the plane’s toilet. It is learnt that the plane is likely to depart for its destination in the afternoon,” he added.

According to reports, standard protocols include isolation of the aircraft, evacuation of passengers and a full search operation.
