Bridge to come up in Rilbong to connect to Rhino museum
Shillong, Feb 17: Rs 3.61 crore has been sanctioned for construction of RCC bridge near Rhino Museum from Rilbong to connect Kenches Trace, Laban with Umshyrpi after the defense authority has agreed to part with its land.
After conducting a site inspection, local MLA Sanbor Shullai told reporters that though he had already initiated the project eight months ago, it was not easy to acquire the area since it falls under the defence land.
“I had to travel to Delhi to seek the approval from the defence ministry to acquire the plot of land for construction of a bridge near the Rhino Museum, which will connect Kenche’s Trace with Umshyrpi for smooth flow of light motor vehicles,” he said.
He was accompanied by officials from the PWD, station commander of the Shillong Cantonment Board and members from the locality.
Shullai said the PWD had to pay Rs 1.69 lakh to the defence for the plot of land adding the department has already prepared a detailed project report (DPR).
He said that the completion of the bridge will to a great extent help ease the flow of traffic.
Aqueduct channel
Later, Shullai also conducted inspection for construction of aqueduct channel including the link road up to Bethesda Home.
Rs 2.34 crore has been sanctioned for construction of a 3 ft drainage system to bury the water pipes which will ensure widening of the link road connecting Lumshadsngi (Binshnuphir) and Kenches Trace.
He urged he Dorbar Shnong and all the residents to cooperate with the PWD to ensure that the two important projects are completed within the stipulated time.
