BSF-BGB Dhaka meet highlights coordinated border management
Shillong, July 21: The border security forces of India and Bangladesh focused on the importance of a Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) in curbing smuggling of contrabands.
During the five-day DG-level conference in Dhaka that concluded on Thursday, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) discussed in details the ways and means to stop border crime, including smuggling of narcotics, fake currency notes and gold.
“The 52nd Director General level coordination conference focused on curbing trans-border crimes and taking all necessary measures to ensure peace and tranquility along the border,” said a BSF statement.
The delegation agreed that sharing of real-time information, coordinated patrols and anti-smuggling efforts will be effective in reducing border crimes.
Besides, both BSF and BGB agreed on “intensifying public awareness program, undertaking appropriate socio-economic developmental programs in vulnerable areas, educating border population about the sanctity of international border”.
The Indian delegation was headed by DG Pankaj Kumar Singh and that of Bangladesh by Major General Shakil Ahmed.
As the pandemic situation improves gradually, both sides hoped for more programmes like Maitree Cycle rally, football and volleyball matches between the forces.
