Cabinet clears new pay for Adhoc & SSA teachers

Shillong, Feb 5: The state cabinet has approved the introduction of a structured pay framework for teachers who are availing a fixed pay under the education department.

The structured pay framework will be implemented from April 1, with an estimated annual financial impact of Rs Rs 817 crore on the state government.

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the reform primarily covers around  23,099 teachers, including Adhoc and SSA teachers, who were earlier receiving grant-in-aid or varied pay structures under SSA guidelines from the Government of India.

Due to differing pay structures and the absence of job security, there has been a long-standing demand for a uniform and structured pay framework. Over the past six months, extensive consultations were held with teachers and their associations, and prior to Christmas, the government had announced its intent to implement this reform, he said.

“Today, the cabinet has formally approved the proposal. Over the next 60 days, the government will finalize related structural and institutional reforms within schools to ensure smooth implementation.
