Cabinet clears private medical college ordinance

Move to facilitate admission in USTM-run institution

Shillong, Oct 23: The cabinet which met in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills, on Wednesday passed Meghalaya Private Medical Institution (regulation of admission, fixation of fees and reservation) Ordinance, 2024.

It also passed Meghalaya Medical College Regulation and Admission into MBBS course, 2024.

The decision was made to facilitate students to join USTM-run PA Sangma private medical college.

Speaking to reporters, health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the cabinet cleared the ordinance and there will be meeting again to constitute the regulatory body.

The regulatory committee will be notified and accordingly fixation of fees, implementation of reservation policy and allotment of seats as per the norms of the government and guided by ruling of various courts will be effective, Ampareen said.

The USTM medical college will operate soon after the singing of the ordinance by the Governor, which will be duly notified, Ampareen said.

The cabinet meeting in Resubelpara was part of the ‘Cabinet on the Move’ initiative.

Earlier, the cabinet meetings were held in Jowai and Tura.
