Shillong, Sept 11: Cabinet has approved the re-classification of category of IMFL brands, introduction of general brand category, revision of advalorem on beer, amendment of rule 44(12), amendment of rule 372(1)(b),Insertion of new rule 71A, amendment of rule 373, rule 374 and introduction of rule 41A of Meghalaya Excise (Amendment) Rule, 2025.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told reporters Thursday after the cabinet meeting that the proposed amendments aim to restructure the rates and pricing to enhance competitiveness in comparison with neighbouring states.
“This step is intended to align pricing with market realities, thereby making more attractive to consumers.
“As a result, we anticipate a rise in consumption, which is expected to contribute to higher overall revenue. Based on our projections, these amendments are estimated to generate an additional Rs 90 crore in revenue
