Call for change resonates in GH, Banerjee for ousting corrupt MDA government

Tura, Nov 18: The call for change that shook West Bengal in 2011 bringing the Trinamool Congress to power resonated in Garo Hills on Friday as the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, gave the clarion call to defeat the corrupt MDA government in the 2023 Assembly elections.

Banerjee, who was on a two-day maiden visit to Garo Hills (Tura), said the current government failed to respect people’s aspirations and hopes which they had in the 2018 Assembly elections when they chose their leaders.

“The states of the North East, like Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, are so diverse and rich in culture, heritage and natural resources, and yet they were neglected for so many years,” he added.

The Lok Sabha MP targeted the BJP saying it was only TMC that was taking the saffron party head-on and challenging its wrongdoings. “Our leader Mamata Banerjee is fighting the BJP… Why is Meghalaya being considered a small state? Now, we will show everyone what Meghalaya is and what the people of the state can do. Every worker of this party will be with you in this fight (against corruption and injustice)… Meghalaya will not be ruled from Delhi anymore,” he added.

Banerjee also applauded the fact that TMC’s membership crossed one lakh.

Earlier, TMC’s Meghalaya in-charge Manas Ranjan Bhunia said people have realised the stagnancy in politics and development in the state and want a change in leadership.

The party’s state president, Charles Pyngrope, too spoke about the much-needed change, saying, “Now, it is not about what we are doing but how much love and dedication we are putting in that work,” he added.
