Catholic body petitions President against Manipur violence after peace rally
Shillong, Aug 5: The Catholic Association of Shillong on Saturday petitioned the President of India seeking her immediate intervention to end violence in Manipur.
The association organised a silent peace rally in the city and expressed anguish over the incidents in Manipur especially the atrocities against women.
The rally of people with placards and banners in their hands started from Firebrigade ground here, passed through Laitumkrah and culminated at Don Bosco stadium where leaders from various Christian denominations prayed for peace in Manipur and other trouble-torn areas.
A memorandum addressed to the President of India through Meghalaya Governor was read out on the occasion.
Signature campaign and lighting of candles for peace in Manipur marked the occasion.
