Central leaders ignore BJP workers’ plea to reconsider support to NPP

Shillong, Mar 26: Many BJP leaders and workers in the state had made a plea to the Central leaders through the party president Rikman Momin to reconsider the decision to support NPP candidates but in vain.

Filing of nominations ends on Wednesday with many party leaders in dilemma over how to project NPP candidates as there were no dearth of candidates for the BJP.

Momin, who reluctantly took up the issue with the Central leaders, did not get any assurance from them.

The state president also downplayed the demand for change of leadership in the party and also the differences over the Centre ‘imposing’ the decision to support NPP.

“One or two people may leave the BJP but that will not affect the party”, Momin said.

Chuba Ao, the BJP leader in-charge Meghalaya, said the differences will last only for a week and not beyond.

He said from 1991 when the BJP entered Meghalaya, the party did not win any Lok Sabha seat and hence it was decided to support the NPP.
