Change in appointment of Chief Justice of Meghalaya HC after two months

Shillong, Sept 18: Two months after the Supreme Court collegium approved Justice Tashi Rabstan as Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya , another recommendation is to appoint Calcutta High Court Judge Indra Prasanna Mukerji as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

On July 10, the SC collegium had proposed  Justice  Rabstan from Ladakh for Meghalaya but now the decision is to appoint him in his parent Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court as Chief Justice.

With the fresh proposal, Calcutta High Court Judge Mukerji will take over as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

Justice HS Thangkhiew is currently officiating as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

According to legal sources, the delay and change of earlier decision was that the Centre had expressed reservation about the recommendation of three Judges as Chief Justices of various High Courts elsewhere in the country.
