Shillong, Oct 23: Ri Bhoi police chargesheeted the case of sexual assault and murder of a minor girl within a record time of two weeks after the investigation was completed within 13 days.
The 13-year-old victim had gone missing at 11 am on October 9 after returning from school. The family started searching for her in the evening, and the body was recovered at night.
Police arrested the absconding accused on October 11.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ri Bhoi Special Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore said, “The case has been chargesheeted vide Nongpoh Women PS CS No. 58/2025 on October 22 against the accused Iainehskhem Kharsati (22), son of late Rinosha Kharsati, a resident of Kalapangti village, Mawlasnai PO under Umiam PS, Ri-Bhoi District, for allegedly committing sexual assault and murder of the child. The case was registered on 10th October 2025 after the recovery of the body the previous evening. WP/UBSI S. Ryngksai, presently posted at Umiam PS, investigated the case.
