Shillong, June 10: Former Assembly Speaker and TMC president Charles Pyngrope justified the action of the Speaker Thomas Sangma in appointing Congress member Ronnie Lyngdoh as the Leader of Opposition.
The Nongthymmai legislator said since the Congress is a national party, the choice went to its member.

“It is also the discretion of the Speaker as far as the appointment of Leader of Opposition is concerned”, he said.
To a question, he ruled out any discrimination towards TMC.
Besides Ronnie, the Speaker also appointed another Congress member Saleng Sangma as Opposition Chief Whip.
