Cherry Blossom Festival tests people’s patience; artistes, others stuck in traffic snarl for hours

Boney M singer says Shillong under curfew

Shillong/Bhoirymbong: Nov 16: Traffic mismanagement, inordinate delays and long gaps between events marked Day 1 of the Cherry Blossom Festival at RBDSA sports complex, Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi district, on Friday.

While the purpose of holding the festival in Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi for the second year was to ease traffic snarl, that did not help.

Boney M member said on stage since she was told there is a curfew , they have to wind up the event early. It is not clear whether the singer meant traffic snarl as curfew.

The delay in the arrival of performers also resulted in the day’s event finishing beyond 12. 30 am. Vehicles were struck atleast for 2 to 3 hours and those bound for Shillong reached around 4.30 am.

Garbage all over

Lack of civic sense was visible at the venue after the festival as bottles, plastic materials and others scattered all over the place. Garbage bins were not placed in many places.

This made the work of volunteers difficult for the next day’s event.
