Chief Justice designate to take oath on Sunday

Shillong, Feb 9: Chief Justice designate of High Court of Meghalaya S Vaidyanathan will take oath on February 11( Sunday).

Governor will administer the oath at Raj Bhavan to the new chief justice who was the Judge of Madras High Court.

He will have a short tenure as his retirement will be in August.

The Centre had appointed Justice HS  Thangkhiew as the Acting Chief Justice after the retirement of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee in November last year.

Justice Vaidyanathan, BA, BL was born on  August 17, 1962 at Coimbatore. He did his schooling in Singaram Pillai High School Villivakkam, Chennai and graduation in BA (Economics) at D.G.Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam during 1979-82. He did B.L in Madras Law College (Dr.Ambedkar Government Law College) during 1982-85 and Post Graduate Diploma in Personal Management, Labour Welfare and Industrial Relations in 1986. He got enrolled as an Advocate on  August 27, 1986. He practiced in the High Court of Judicature at Madras, where his paternal grandfather L.S.Vaidyanathan served as a Superintendent, Copyist Section and retired in the year 1952. His father,  V.Subramanian started his life as a shoe polish seller and later grew to be a committed trade unionist and the founder member of the first white-collared Employees’ Union in 1946, viz., Madras Commercial Employees Union in this city of Madras under the leadership of  R.Venkataraman, who later became the President of India. He served as an Editor of Labour Law Books published by Madras Book Agency. He was elevated on 25.10.2013 as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Madras and became a permanent Judge of this Court on 14.04.2015. ( biodata courtesy: Madras High Court)
