Chief Justice & others travel by bus to open Law University in Nongthymmai

WALK THE TALK

Shillong, July 8: The High Court of Meghalaya on Saturday followed its own ruling on the need to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

Chief justice Sanjib Banerjee, justices HS Thangkhiew and W Diengdoh, besides officers and staff did not use their official vehicles and instead arranged buses to ferry them to Mayurbanj Complex, Nongthymmai, to attend the opening of National Law University of Meghalaya.

The team also returned to the High Court in buses to attend the opening function of annexe building of the court.

Traffic snarl was visible on the road towards Nongthymmai but the buses carrying the official HC team did not face any problem as the way was cleared.

Many traffic personnel were deployed during the event.

When asked, the chief justice said the intention of the bus ride was to reduce the number of official vehicles to Nongthymmai.

“We did it today, otherwise atleast 60 to 70 private vehicles would have added to the traffic congestion”, the chief justice added.

However, as private cars moved out of the high court premises after the function, there was no change in traffic snarl.
