Christmas Lights Village Moolamylliang welcomes visitors

Shillong, Dec 18: Moolamylliang, christened as Christmas Lights Village, is ready to embrace visitors. 
The festival of lights heralding Christmas was inaugurated on Monday at the village, 15 km from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District by Rajya Sabha member Dr W. R Kharlukhi.
Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla, Director, Information and Public Relations Malthus Sangma and others were present.
Every day from 5 pm to 12 midnight till January 3, the place decorated with lights will be an attraction.
Ever since 2019 when it was first initiated,  tourists used to throng the village to get first hand experience of its greenery, cleanliness and the Christmas decorations.
The headman of the village, Apmon Pachiang said the lights with different designs have shone and it’s time for the young and the old to enjoy the adorable ‘holiday village’.
This is the fourth time that the village is popularising the initiative with the Dorbar village fund.
“Though Christmas is celebrated by all , the whole village came together since 2020 and decorated the area to promote the village and celebrate Christmas”, the headman said.
The village has 170 households and the population would be around 1000.
80 per cent of the residents depends on Agriculture for their livelihood.
