City biker among Top 3 in national MTB race in Tawang
Shillong, Jan 17: Pynshailang Khyllait, an MTB racer from the city, secured the third position in the men’s junior category in the three-day national MTB XCM race that was held in Arunachal Pradesh recently.
The event was organised the Arunachal Cycling Association, under the aegis of Cycling Federation of India, in Tawang from January 8-10.
There were 60 participants from all over India. From Meghalaya, Ialamjingshai Mylliem, Kevinjohn Khyllait, Thrangskhem Pariong, John Rynthathiang and Pynshngain B Lyngkhoi also completed the race with promising results.
Day 1 started with the first stage and a total of 31 km from Dirang to Mandala Top with a maximum elevation of 3,195 m. The second day challenged the riders with another 66 km from Dirang to Sela Pass.
While the final stage ended with a 55-km ride from Dirang to Dirang via Sangti, Kabibok, Namchu, Munna Camp with an elevation of 2,176 m.
The second stage had a maximum elevation of 4,157 m.
Apart from the tough race route, the cold weather conditions pushed riders to their limits during the three days. In the end, only the best could conquer the hills of Arunachal Pradesh.
Soiba Lancheba and Lobsang Phuntso were the winner and first runner-up, respectively.
Riders from Meghalaya were sponsored by the Meghalaya Cycling Association under the guidance of Lening Bareh and team.
