City writer’s book released by Sikkim CM

Shillong, July 25: The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Golay formally released the book entitled – ‘Know Your India’ authored by Salil Gewali. The event was held in Gangtok on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti in presence of political leaders, scholars, writers, filmmakers, social activists, and guests invited from various parts of India. The chief minister lauded the contributions of Gewali to the nation. ‘Know Your India’ is a collection of articles which are about the profoundly significant literary wisdom of India that though inspired the world-famous intellectuals, was “misunderstood” by Indians.

Know Your India’ had won the appreciations of various scholars. The forewords to the book were by  eminent Lahore-born scholar from London – Khalid Umar and another scholar  Linda Epton from Perth, Australia.  Umar, who is also well-versed in Indian literature, says: “Against the backdrop of the increasing self-loathing sickness among Indians, Gewali’s book – ‘Know Your India’ has come up as a quick remedy. But one must be ready to swallow the bitter pills in it. It argues with logical assertiveness about the vast literary treasure trove of India that has been acknowledged and appreciated by the top intellectuals like Voltaire, Goethe, Mark Twain, TS Eliot, Ralph Emerson.”

Linda, who has inspired many Indians in Australia to imbibe the deeper philosophy of ancient text, remarks: “I believe the book by Salil Gewali will certainly be helpful in bolstering Indians’ faith and respect in their profound cultural heritage and spiritualism. I consider this publication as one of the significant contributions to the country.”

Gewali is best known for his research-based book – “Great Minds on India” which has so far been translated into fourteen languages with the foreword by  NASA director and Chief scientist – Dr Kamlesh Lulla, Houston, USA.  Gewali says, “The sunshine of ancient wisdom of India should not be eclipsed by the cloud of prejudices, hatred and envy.” In this publication, Gewali was supported and encouraged by various literary scholars from New Delhi, Panjab, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
