Shillong, May 22: The managing committee and the teachers of KJP Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Mission Compound, have decided to resume classes next week.
The heritage school building constructed in 1892 was gutted by fire in the wee hours on Sunday.
Principal of the school, C. Allya and senior teacher Kular Khongjirem told reporters that there will be a meeting on Thursday following which the date for resumption of classes will be announced though the decision ia to start classes next week itself.
The managing committee and the school authorities are yet to assess the damage though there are varied opinions on the nature of new building to be constructed.
According to the police, short circuit may have caused the fire but the residents say there was load shedding when the incident took place.
