Shillong, July 6: Tura MP Saleng Sangma, who attended a felicitation ceremony in the city, said he he has no intention to field his wife unlike the wives of NPP leader and CM Conrad Sangma and TMC leader Zenith Sangma who are set to contest the Gambegre bypoll.
The Congress state party president Vincent Pala told reporters that the bypoll is a must win for the party.
Pala said the party has called for application from aspiring candidates and has decided to entrust the Tura MP and former legislator to ensure victory.
“We will entrust our MP to make our candidate win and definitely he has the say to whom we want to give a ticket and we will definitely support,” Pala said.
He said Saleng has to win this election since Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is fielding his wife from NPP, former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is putting up his sister-in-law and Zenith’s wife from TMC.
“So it’s one of the most interesting election in Garo Hills this time as all the big leaders, chief minister, ex-chief minister and future chief minister will be contesting this time,” Pala added.
