CM assures action against HNLC

IED attack on Dhar Company in Shymplong, EJH

Shillong, Dec 19: Chief Minister Conrad  Sangma asserted that the government will not tolerate the illegal activities of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) following the IED attack on the Dhar Company in Shymplong, East Jaintia Hills district.

The outfit has claimed responsibility of the IED attack by saying that it targeted  Dhar’s property over extortion refusal.

When asked how many politicians in Meghalaya are being served with demand notes, Sangma said, “Details I don’t have with me, but earlier they were saying he was paying and now they are saying he is not paying – that is quite a bit of a contradictory thing.”.

The chief minister assured that the government will not tolerate such actions and that the police have gathered sufficient evidence to act.
“The police have made a very strong case, they have enough information and full evidence… I am sure the SP will be sharing that with you tomorrow. Action has been taken, the police have been very swift, and those behind it will definitely be picked up,” Sangma added.
The HNLC statement had claimed that  the property of Dhar was aimed after he allegedly refused to meet extortion demands.
Two over‑ground workers of the HNLC were arrested on December 18 in connection with the blast and have confessed to planting the device.
