Shillong, Dec 1: The Akonggre Government Lower Primary School building, Tura was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on November 30.
The school is under South Tura constituency. The building grant of Rs 37 lakh was sanctioned by the government this year and the construction was completed recently .
The school established in 1961 had produced a numbers of officers, teachers,lecturers within 61 years.
Hejillina T Sangma, head teacher of the school said she studied in the school from 1972 and completed her primary education here.
“This school is my shelter and my home”, she said.
The chief minister emphasised the importance of education and recalled that it is the primary education which leads to every channel of future of students.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Samuel Marak, the Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO), Tura, Rakkan M Sangma, Nokma of Akonggre locality, Hejillina, and Rajesh M Momin, President of Akonggre Govt. LP School, Tura
Earlier, a dedication prayer was recited by Pastor Benben K Marak of Akonggre Baptist Church, Tura for the new school building.
