CM launches three initiatives in city

Green Meghalaya+, MegARISE for Umiew catchment area and Sustainable Land Management Meghalaya project for organic farming

Shillong, Oct 1: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday launched Green Meghalaya+, MegARISE for Umiew catchment area and Sustainable Land Management Meghalaya project.

Building on the remarkable success of Green Meghalaya, the government initiative aims to incentivize individuals and communities to conserve and protect Meghalaya’s green spaces. The introduction of Green Meghalaya+ underscores  commitment to fostering a greener, climate-resilient Meghalaya.

The launch of MegARISE for Umiew catchment in Meghalaya and Sustainable Land Management Meghalaya Project for organic farming is with the support of  KfW German Development Bank.

This initiative will address the vulnerability of Umiew Catchment, a crucial water source for Shillong, by ecological restoration and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the city’s water supply.

The Sustainable Land Management Meghalaya Project is towards sustainability and organic farming objectives in Meghalaya.

This initiative capitalizes on traditional farming methods to establish market connections for farmers, addressing productivity challenges via organic farming promotion, certification streamlining, farmer capacity enhancement, and market linkage fortification.

The chief minister also distributed cheques Unser Green Meghalaya+ and also distributed cheques for FOCUS program-Meghalaya’s biggest farmers’ welfare program and CM-ELEVATE, a grant in support of entrepreneurs of Meghalaya..
