CM opens grid sub station in Phulbari

Shillong, Dec 20: Chief Minister ConradĀ  Sangma has inaugurated a state-of-the-art 2×50 MVA, 132/33 KV Grid Substation in Phulbari, West Garo Hills District.

Also present were Tura MP Agatha K Sangma, Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal, PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri and key representatives of the Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited, MPTCL.

The inauguration of the Phulbari Substation is expected to resolve long-pending issues of low voltage in the region.

The cost breakdown for various packages under NERPSIP in Phulbari includes Rs. 73.55 crore for the construction of a 132 KV Double Circuit Transmission Line, construction of 132/33 KV sub-stations, and bay extension, including the construction of residential staff quarters. Additionally, Rs 33.34 crore was spent on the construction of new 33/11 KV sub-stations, augmentation of existing sub-stations, and the construction of 33 KV lines.

A new power line connecting Ampati to Phulbari, stretching nearly 50 km, delivers electricity at a higher level of 132 KV. It taps power from the Ampati station and channels it to the freshly built Phulbari station. This upgraded station, equipped with two powerful 50 MVA Transformers, links to smaller substations at 33/11 KV, benefiting communities in Bhaitbari, Phulbari, Tikrikilla, Raksamgre, Rongsai, Rajabala, covering almost 75% of West Garo Hills District.
