CM to tour GH on Friday after four landslide-induced deaths

Shillong,June 9: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will leave for Garo Hills on Friday to take stock of the situation following the death of four villagers in Garo Hills due to landslide.

The chief minister admitted that the situation is grim and hence he has decided to visit the flood affected areas.

Police said the village where the landslide- induced deaths occurred is Jabalpur under Salmanpara police station, South West Garo Hills but the area falls under the civil administration of Dadengre Block of West Garo Hills.

The names of the deceased are Pretish Ch Marak (38), her children- 12-year-old Alamos Ch Marak and 3-year-old daughter Aimbe Ch Marak.

The father of the children, Sengrik D Sangma. sustained injuries while another son, Thobes Ch Marak was saved without any injury, police added.

In a similar incident, a two and a half-year-old boy identifed as Tanush Hajong also died in Samati village under Betasing block due to landslide making the death toll in Garo Hills to 4.
