Condemnation against attack on Garo youth

Shillong, March 16: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has condemned the brutal attack on a young Garo boy, as reported by Kilme Marak.
According to a video posted on facebook by the victim’s family, the boy was assaulted by a group of miscreants while on his way to revise lessons for his computer examination. “This heinous act of violence is not only an attack on an innocent individual but also a direct threat to peace and harmony among communities in Meghalaya”, the ACHIK said.
The members of ACHIK, demanded swift and decisive action from the Meghalaya Home Department and the state police.
“We urge the authorities to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators and ensure strict legal action against those responsible”, it said.
The Meghalaya Home department must guarantee the safety and security of all individuals, especially Garo students and youths, who should not have to live in fear of communal aggression in Shillong. We request the concerned authorities to prevent further escalation by deploying necessary security measures and promoting communal harmony through constructive engagement, the ACHIK said.
“This incident is yet another distressing reminder of the deep-rooted issues of ethnic violence in Meghalaya. The government must take a firm stand to prevent such acts from recurring. We will not remain silent while our people suffer from targeted attacks. Justice must prevail, and we demand accountability from those responsible for ensuring law and order in the state. If immediate action is not taken, ACHIK, along with concerned citizens, will be compelled to organize peaceful protests and legal interventions to seek justice. We call upon all right-thinking individuals, civil society organizations, and community leaders to stand united against such senseless violence”, the group added.
