Cong gears up to finalise GHADC candidates

Shillong,Feb 12: The Congress will field candidates in all the 29 seats in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.
Party president Vincent Pala told reporters that they will go it alone in the polls.
“The party will contest from all the 29 seats. We do not have any alliance with other parties. We will fight alone in the upcoming elections,” Pala told reporters on Thursday.
The party received 67 applications for tickets.
With one withdrawal already and another expected, there will be 65 candidates to be finalised.
“We will announce the candidates the moment the government notifies and announces the election – that is the normal procedure of the party,” he said.
Pala expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness.
“We are ready to face the elections. Our people are on the ground and hopefully we should do well”, he added.
Coal mine tragedy 
He said the delay on the part of the state  government and the Centre to start scientific mining has resulted in frequent incidents of violations.
