Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the Congress Shillong City on Thursday, Syiem said the party is yet to receive any reply from the MLAs.

“The next course is with the AICC. The suspension goes beyond MPCC and it all depends on the AICC”, he said.

Syiem said he has taken over as the chairman of party’s  Shillong city panel temporarily after PT Sawkmie, who was it’s president, was suspended.

He also said there are a few blocks which are not so organised. “It is the duty of the Shillong City District Congress Committee to reach out to every block in the Shillong City and the timeframe is before the second week of March to discuss on strengthening and revamping the party at the block level.

To a question on an MDC joining the UDA,  Syiem said that Balajied Ranee extended support to the UDA coalition in the KHADC.

“It has not been discussed in the Congress Parliamentary Party in the KHADC. I have nothing to say. In the next CPP we will discuss.,” he said.

Syiem said he is trying to prevent exodus from the party.  “In District Council we do not have the Tenth Schedule. It is very difficult, even in the state government also, we cannot prevent them. But we still try hard that they should not run away from the party” he  said.

Regarding the revival of the party, Syiem said the  MLAs and MDCs do not constitute the party. “It does not mean that if the MLAs and MDCs run away, the party supporters will also run away. In each and every general election,  not less than 30 per cent of the present MLAs lost the election, just because they joined other parties”.
