Shillong, June 18: The state government has decided to carry on with the containment measures in view of spread of Covid positive cases to rural areas of the state.
An order issued on Friday by the Chief Secretary MS Rao said that it was observed that the number of Covid cases is still very high and there is a significant spread in rural areas.
The chief secretary said the containment measures issued on June 11 will continue to be enforced in the state from June 21 until further order.
The decision is to safeguard the state from uncontrollable surge in Covid cases, the order said.
Earlier, briefing reporters, Health Minister AL Hek said that while the containment and other restrictions will continue, it is upto the deputy commissioners to decide on relaxation of lockdown.
Sources, however, said that since the cases are still rising, the lockdown will continue for the whole month.
No forceful vaccination
Hek also said that there is no question of forcing anyone to go for vaccination.
According to the health minister, it is a request from the government as vaccination will protect people.
