Counter FR filed against activist in Tura

Shillong, March 31: The husband of activist Jaynie Sangma has filed a counter FIR against activisti Greneth M. Sangma for mocking his wife on social media by calling her “Jaynie Chowdhury,” deliberately twisting her surname to humiliate her, ignoring the matrilineal traditions of Garo society.
Earlier, Greneth had filed an FIR against Jaynie for posting confidential information shared to her by him on WhatsApp groups.
However, Kenedy R. Marak, the husband of Jaynie said Greneth had intruded into their family affairs by falsely accusing her of “snatching somebody else’s husband,” despite the dup living peacefully as husband and wife.
“Greneth M. Sangma has also uploaded copies of RTIs and FIRs on social media platforms, which is a violation of the IT Act, 2000, and constitutes unlawful dissemination of official documents. Further, in his FIR, he deliberately wrote “late” before the names of my wife’s parents i.e. my in-laws, who are alive, which is malicious, disrespectful, and raises suspicion that he harbors ill intent toward them too”, Marak said.
According to Matal, Greneth has repeatedly harassed his wife by sending abusive and disturbing messages through WhatsApp, causing mental trauma and violating her right to dignity and privacy. “Confidential communications and unverified claims have been distorted and presented as evidence, violating her fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. These coordinated actions amount to abuse of legal process, violation of natural justice, and invasion of privacy, and have caused severe mental distress, social humiliation, and professional hardship to my wife, which in turn has affected our family life”, Marak said.
He urged the officer in-charge of Tura police station to register the counter FIR against Greneth under the relevant Sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including but not limited to Section 217 insulting (false information), Section 248 (false charge of offence), Section 356 (defamation), Section 196 (promoting enmity on grounds of race etc.), Section 79 modesty of a woman), Section 353 (public mischief and circulation of false information) of BNS. 2023, Section 66E of the IT Act, 2000 (violation of privacy).
The husband wanted appropriate investigation to prevent further harassment and protect his wife’s constitutional rights.
The FIR said necessary steps should be taken to ensure that the complainant is restrained from filing frivolous and malicious complaints in the future.
