CPM asks Modi to dismiss minister for fair probe
New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury, on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should sack Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni over the recent incident in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri to ensure an “impartial” inquiry.
“PM Modi must dismiss Ajay Mishra Teni. As a minister mandated to protect law and order he violated all norms by making incendiary speeches that resulted in this barbarity. His sacking is imperative to ensure an impartial judicial inquiry,” Yechury wrote in a social media post.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) in a statement said, “Even after the killings, in which his son was involved, he (Teni) has justified the atrocity, blaming the farmers. There is clear video evidence of the convoy, with sirens blaring, driving into the farmers and killing them. No inquiry can be impartial with him as the Minster of State for Home.”
Attacking the UP government, the party said, “The lockdown of democracy by the Yogi Adityanath government in UP and arrest of Opposition leaders on their way to meet the bereaved families is highly condemnable.”
On Sunday, nine people, including four farmers and one journalist, were killed and several injured after a convoy of three SUVs, one allegedly being driven by minister’s son crushed protesters while they were agitating against the visit of state Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
