Shillong, Mar 21: The Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) has destroyed 1019.490 kgs of ganja and 2.437 kgs of heroin valued at Rs 19.17 crore which were seized under the NDPS Act, 1985.
The drugs destruction drive was carried out on Thursday by incineration in the presence of Drug Disposal Committee consisting of officers of Customs and DRI.
“The destruction is being undertaken by Customs in an effort to ensure efficient management and disposal of seized goods with a view towards enhancing public welfare and the nation’s well-being. Drug destruction also ensures that the nation is free from menace of drug abuse”, said a statement by the Customs.
