Shillong, Jan 27: A poem scribbled on a piece of paper by his daughter, single packets of bhujia and cigarettes were the companions for the eternal journey of Tarun Bhartiya, on Monday.
Tarun was cremated at Jhalupara electric crematorium in the city without any rituals according to his wish.
“He loved poems and as he himself was a poet, we put a poem written by our daughter in his pocket. He liked bhujia and a packet was placed. His friend put a packet of cigarette on his body. He was not a religious believer but he respected believers and non-believers alike”, Tarun’s wife Angela Rangad said as his body was consigned to flames.
When asked, the daughter did not want to share the poem indicating let it go with the father.
Earlier, people from all walks of life, including the workers’ associations, gathered at his residence in Motinagar and paid tribute through poems, songs and eulogies. His family members also spoke about his invaluable contributions. Tarun’s favourite Latin American movement song ‘Gracia a la vida’ was played before the body was taken to Jhalupara crematorium where rituals bowed before humanity.
