Worship issue at Mawjymbuin cave in Mawsynram

Shillong,Jan 3: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah held a meeting with the members of Dorbar Shnong of Mawsynram and Assam based Kutumba Surakshya Parishad to discuss the worship issue at Mawjymbuin cave, Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills.
According to the deputy commissioner, it was understood in the meeting that there has been no ban on visiting Mawjymbuin cave.
While the Dorbar Shnong maintained that no rituals should be performed at Mawjymbuin cave since it is a tourist spot, the members of Kutumba Surakshya Parishad are of the opinion that prayers can be held without any disturbance.
The deputy commissioner said that it will continue to monitor the situation as the parties concerned will have to abide by the standard operating procedure.
Earlier, speaking to reporters after attending the meeting convened by the DC, assistant rangbah shnong and spokesperson of the dorbar, Hiamdor Rapsang said that the dorbar shnong is the rightful owner of the Mawjymbuin cave and from the very beginning no worshipping is allowed inside the cave.
The Kutumba Surakshya Parishad expressed confidence in the district administration and the dorbar shnong of Mawsynram.
Its president Satya Ranjan Borah indicated that the people will adhere to the standard operating procedure.
“Everyone is allowed. There was no ban. Anyone can go there 365 days from 9 am to 5 pm onwards but they have to maintain some standard operating procedures (SOPs). There are some SOPs and we do accept those SOPs…” he added.
