Shillong, Oct 5: After the death of three persons on Friday due to flood, seven more persons lost their lives in Garo Hills due to landslide.
Though the incident of land slide was reported on Friday, the seven deaths in Gasuapara, South Garo Hills were confirmed on Saturday.

The seven members of the family who died at Hatiasia Songma are Silji R Marak,(60- mother), Merina R Marak (39- daughter), Sama N Sangma (50 -son-in-law), Chengbe R Marak (22- grand daughter, Desrang R Marak(14- grandson), Silbera R Marak (8- grand daughter and Dimse R Marak (1.5 year- great grand daughter and daughter of Chengbe)
Their bodies are yet to be retrieved.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma held review meeting on Saturday on the ongoing flood situation in Garo Hills, which has affected all the five districts, particularly South Garo Hills and West Garo Hills.
The incessant rain since Friday has led to flood in Dalu area of West Garo Hills and the plains. Gasuapara in South Garo Hills is also badly affected, where bridges have been washed away.
After 3 civilians lost their lives in Dalu, the chief minister directed the district administration to release ex-gratia to the next of the kin.
The deceased have been identified as Santa Marak (57) from Koinabui, Miardo Marak (5) from Sorokpara and Sarika Marak (18) from Kharongngre-all from West Garo Hills.
The injured have been identified as Moralistic Marak (Koinabui), Frederick Sangma and Parcella Sangma (both Northern Hawakhana)
The chief minister has asked the administration to seek for any assistance from the government and ensure that the relief is carried out in the affected areas.
The seven persons who were buried alive are from Hatiasia Songma village under Gasuapara.
The NDRF team is carrying out the search and rescue operation in the area.
Road communications from Dalu to Baghmara and other places have been disrupted due to multiple landslides.
The chief minister has directed the administration to identify alternative routes to restore road communication in Dalu – Baghmara area.
The chief minister arrested that the wooden bridges that have been washed away and damaged should be rebuilt. He has recommended bailey bridge technology for the construction.
All wooden bridges have been identified in the state and will be replaced with new constructions, he said.
Officials have informed that electricity will be restored in most parts of the region by Saturday.
Chief Minister has directed that all efforts should be made to ease public life and ensure adequate relief operation and wanted administration to be on high alert with officials to continuously monitor the situation.
