Shillong, Dec 4: Years after the intervention of Meghalaya Lokayukta and the High Court of Meghalaya, the Enforcement Directorate, Shillong Sub Zone, has conducted raids in many locations in West Garo Hills in connection with the alleged misuse of central funds meant for GHADC.
According to media reports, 60 per cent of the Rs 28.66 crore sanctioned were released to contractors Kubon Sangma and Nikseng Sangma by the former Asanang MDC Ismail Marak, violating provisions.
Election to the GHADC is likely in April next year.
The action is surprising as the matter was already taken up by the Lokayukta and the High Court in the past.
The raid was conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Meghalaya.
According to earlier reports, out of 49 projects allotted to Asanang GHADC constituency for 2017-18 at the cost of Rs 1 crore, only one graveyard shed was constructed at Balupara, besides one water tank at Daljagre.
A complaint was filed before the Lokayukta by Nilberth Marak through his lawyer PT Sangma , in 2019 for non- non-implementation of the project allotted to Asanang, represented by Ismail Marak
Later, the High Court disposed of the appeal by the accused.
