Denial of ‘incomplete’ PA Sangma stadium for Modi rally: BJP leader asks why it was inaugurated in December?

Shillong, Feb 19: The denial of venue of rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24 in Tura PA Sangma stadium in the name of incomplete construction has given ammunition to the BJP to question the Conrad-led NPP regarding the inauguration of the project in December last year.

BJP central leader Rituraj Sinha told reporters on Sunday at the party office here that the BJP had sought permission to hold the rally at the stadium but it was denied.

“My question to the Chief Minister is that if the stadium is not ready even in February, why it was inaugurated on December 16 last year,”, Sinha said.

According to the BJP leader, there is a fear among the opponents hence the permission was denied.

He said the state sports department denied permission to hold the rally stating that the facilities at the stadium are not ready.

“We want to know why should anyone deprive the people of Garo Hills to witness the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, Sinha said.

Are Conrad Sangma and Mukul Sangma afraid of the BJP wave, he asked.

The stadium was built at the cost of Rs 127 crore and 90% of it came from the Centre, the BJP leader pointed out.

The BJP leadership has decided to go ahead with the rally but the venue will be decided later.
