Shillong, May 25: An individual identified as Jitherson Sangma from Rongram wanted action against harassment of police following many complaints.
He referred to lodging FIR on January 7 against two persons for stealing Rs 50 lakh besides gold ornaments.
Another earlier complaint was against a police officer for allegedly asking money for investigating a case.
In a letter addressed to DGP on May 22, Sangma said he had lodged an FIR dated.07.01.2025 against Suchorita R. Marak and Prosanjit Barua for stealing gold chain, gold bracelet worth Rs 2 lakh, separately Rs 50 lakh, documents related to garage and insurance passbook of his children’s account No.355679810. A case was registered and investigation is going on.
Earlier on November 19 last year, Sangma had filed another FIR for stealing the vehicles(ML08 L 0931 and AS-01 RC-1646). He recalled that police SI Benzer R. Marak had demanded Rs 3 lakh from him for investigating the FIR but he refused to pay.
“That when I refused to comply and pay Rs 3,00,000/- for investigation the police Sl. Shri. Benzer R. Marak has kept the matter pending without investigation, therefore I have filed a complaint to the SP of Tura West Garo Hills to take action against Shri, Benzer R. Marak Sl but there has been no action by the SP against the erring Police SI Shri. Benzer R. Marak”, Sangma alleged.
According to the complainant, it should be noted that despite complaining against the erring police officer, the case was endorsed to the same police officer to investigate the matter.
“Therefore I have filed another application to the Superintendent of Police on April 16 to change the investigation officer and to endorse it to some other Investigation officer but there has been no response to my pleading as neither any action was taken against the erring police officer for demanding Rs. 3 lakh from me to investigate my case nor the SP has changed the investigation officer, Sangma said.
The complainant said as no action was taken against Benzer R. Marak, the same investigation officer is repeatedly harassing him by taking revenge for filing complaint against him and for filing an application to replace him with another investigation officer.
He pointed out that the police officer had been repeatedly issuing summons and harassing him on the pretext of recording the statements.
“It is stated that I have appeared on numerous occasions before him and have given my statements but despite of recording my statements repeatedly on numerous occasions the erring police officer Shri. Benzer R. Marak SI had been repeatedly issuing summons to my mother and to my manager and myself by repeatedly calling us through his personal phone number to appear before him every now and then. It is also stated that the erring police SI had been repeatedly visiting my house and forcing me to appear before the Rongram Police outpost and he had been repeatedly and frequently visiting my family and my business places like Hardware Shop at Rongram and harassing the undersigned mentally and physically. The act of erring police officer is also creating fear psychosis and giving mental torture.The erring police office is not only harassing and torturing the undersigned but also torturing the entire family members of the undersigned”, he said.
“In view of the above, I humbly request your good self to intervene into the matter by taking action against the erring corrupt officer for demanding money from the complainant and harassing the complaint repeatedly and continuously on the pretext of investigation despite of the statements recorded of the complainant on numerous occasions”, he said in the letter to DGP.
