Shillong, Feb 11: Though the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has shortlisted three names from Assam for the post of Meghalaya DGP, the state government prefers the current special DGP Idashisha. Nongrang.
According to a UNI report, the names are Mukesh Agrawal, K.V.Singh Deo (both 1989 batch IPS officer) and L. Ram Bishnoi (1991 batch). The three Assam-,Meghalaya IPS cadre officers are posted with Assam government. Except Mukesh, two others did not serve in Meghalaya.
Out of the five names sent by the state government earlier after the retirement of DGP R Chandranathan, the UPSC chose three following the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
The other two are S. Narayan Singh (1991 batch) and Nongrang (1992 batch).
This has resulted in dilemma over the appointment of new DGP.
Nongrang is functioning as the officiating DGP.
