‘Displaced people from Manipur not getting enough support’

Shillong, July 23:There are concerns about displaced people from the violence-hit Manipur not getting enough support in Meghalaya.

A candle night vigil was organised on Sunday at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkrah in protest against Manipur violence.

Caldwell Manners, representing the group of concerned citizens who organised a candle light vigil at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkrah to protest against violence in Manipur, said he felt that more support is needed for the displaced people in terms of accommodation, admission in educational institutions and health care.

“This is a humanitarian crisis, we are doing whatever we can to address the concerns of the displaced people and at the same time we expect more cooperation from the government, traditional institutions and others”, Manners said.

Wanted seperation

Disgusted over the state of affairs in Manipur, Chongpi Haokip,anti-drugs leader in Kuki-Zo society in Shillong and Lalam Guite,  chairperson, Kuki worship service women department, Shillong said that they want separation.

The Kuki-Zo people are seeking seperation from Manipur in the wake of atrocities against them.
